The restoration of Calypso - Part I
I’ve seen many people take a wood boat apart to try and restore it only to realize they don’t have the skills money and will to see it to the end. I sure hope that doesn’t happen to this famous vessel. This crew looks like they have all the talent and more. Keep up the good work guys, hope to hear she gets finished and launched 👍
Calypso hasn't actually been restored has she?
But the ship never was restored was she?
I dont know if they didnt have the funds to restore , striping her naked the owners should of sunk her with dignity as a reef for ocean life i think cousteau would of wanted that way ,not a pile of parts on the hard
The title of this should be “Taking Calypso out of the water”
Beautiful 🤩
As a young boy, I wrote to Mr. Cousteau requesting a job aboard Calypso. I received a kind letter back signed by Philipe Roy saying the Captain was at sea and couldn't respond personally and that there were no openings on the Calypso at that time.
Is she not beautiful still ' omg❤❤
The boat it is in Turkey now ,The status -unknown due the continuous process laws betwen the parts involved ...A great shame -France doesn t due more about the issue .A national treasure for sure .
16y AGO THATS INSANE
Que gran alegría volver a ver el calypso me emociono 🥲
Wonderful!!!! Oh she looks so tired. A worthy project. The French are EXCELLENT SHIP BUILDERS!!! She is in perfect hands.
Is not in France anymore ...
Thank you to all the crew of Calypso , Salute. Respect .
That beautiful ship ended it's journey up the mighty Mississippi in my home state of Minnesota one of the greatest honors. The world war 2 mine sweeper that did so much to heal us from cold wars and help us appreciate the beauty of God's gift! Truly inspiring
Calypso the Cold war ice breaker! My hero
tan poca gente sabe de la existencia de esos seres
Forgive me for my ignorance but who is the lady in the red coat?
I am in awe at what these shipwrights are able to do with such an old wooden hulled boat. Simply amazing! If any ship deserved to be restored from this level of neglect and decay the Calypso is the one.👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That poor boat. She has been neglected for so long. Hopefully when she is restored she will be better than she has been in decades.
Bonjour, je trouve pas la suite de la restauration
this stupid boat and the jackass frogs that molested the worlds ocean in it should be scuttled and turned into a reef that supports life. instead of molesting it. you idiots that don't get it are too dumb for words. good luck with that. Cousteau was a stupid french frog barbarian. this power over nature trip is disgusting and any credit should be canceled. what a jackass.

I would love so new content.
As a boy in the 70s I loved watching the adventures of Cousteau and the Calypso, his passion was a inspiration 👍☺
Worth every penny. One of the great ships in history.
Simone was and is the Mother of Calypso.
Francine, Simone will never let you sail her Yacht
That would be Simone Melchior Cousteau’s ship, Francine is squeezing every penny out of it.
yea i used to watch this as a kid and thought it was cool but the more i watch now i'm just disgusted. this stupid frog's obsession with power over nature is lame and barbaric and again overshadows anything inovative that they might have pulled off. sooo Zissiou!
Hold on a second, are they using the soundtrack from the Britannic movie for the video that’s ironic, because that was a ship that discovered it
I ❤ the sea.
❤👍🌎
“One PSA later…”
I've read that w/ Tom Kenny's signature Francized ("Frenchified") voice. Btw, what's this PSA, exactly?
A piece of history

Awesome !That is the Danube Delta that Ukraine started to destroy due to Bastroe canal.
For heavens sake! Wikipedia says: These restauration was never finished, and the remain of the Calypso is unknown!!!😱
It was built in my state of Washington. I discovered that yesterday. I loved watching it on tv and hope it is restored. It inspired me to travel and Scuba dive.
What a shame it got forgotten again
For everyone who is upset or nervous about all of the 'destruction' before the reconstruction, you are merely seeing 80 years of maintenance going in all at once . So, relax she is in good hands!!!
Are there any new 2022 or 2023 updates on this fantastic ship of my youth ?
Hi, I discovered why a few years back, tens of thousands of dolphins were found dead at French beaches, and I made a video about it. I also speak French.
